This spell allows the cast to summon a planar being called a mephi (MM1)t. The caster must prepare elaborate runes and sigils, and offer a 50gp gem (payment to the mephit) to conjure a mephit from the planes. The caster can specify what kind of mephit he desires, but 30% of the time a random mephit arrives to answer the summoning. The conjured mephit is bound by the spell to follow the directions of the caster, as subject to interpretation of the mephit. The mephit will fight for the caster, deliver messages, and guard objects obediently, for the duration of the spell. Asking the mephit to conduct other tasks may allow the mephit to interpret the orders, sometimes allowing the mephit to create trouble for its temporary master. The summoning spell lasts for 1 turn per level of the caster. If the caster is slain, incapacitated, or, if the spell expires- the mephit is no longer bound to serve the caster, and becomes free to act as it will. This spell does not return the mephit to the planes.
